Child Find Screening Procedures
An annual screening of 3 to 5 year old preschoolers will be held by appointment on the first Friday of each month, using the DIAL-R screening program and hearing and vision screenings. Incoming Kindergarten children will be screened in the spring using the same screening instruments. Announcement of screening will be made in the local news media, by notices sent to parents, and in the District#6 Parent Handbook. Screening will be done by a screening team including: speech/language specialist, nurse, psychologist, learning disabilities teacher, and others.

A screening of all students new to the district, grades K-8, using an informal test of reading and math skills, a speech and language screening for students new to Illinois, and a vision and hearing screening will be done on an ongoing basis. School personnel, including the school nurse, speech/language specialists, resource teachers, and reading teachers will conduct such screenings.

A teacher review of Achievement and State test results along with a Student Support Services Team review of those students scoring one year below grade level at the primary level or two years below grade level at the intermediate or junior high level or with an EAS of 75 or lower will be completed on an annual basis each spring. Students being considered for retention must be reviewed by the Student Support Services Team.

Teacher observation of possible student problems will be on an on-going basis.

Students enrolled at private or parochial schools will be screened at the request of such schools or parents. Screening may consist of an informal test of reading and math skills, speech/language screening, and vision screening.
