Occupational Therapy is a supportive service provided within the
school district. Its goal is to design therapy programs to assist
students with various handicapping conditions develop skills that
are prerequisites for academic learning. OT may include improving
gross and fine motor skills, organizing and using materials
appropriately, improving coordination skills, and learning to dress
or feed oneself. Technology and classroom adaptations may be
utilized to increase the student's ability to participate in the

Physical Therapy is a related service provided to children with individual educational plans who have gross motor concerns. Physical therapists evaluate how someone gets from one place to another by rolling, crawling, walking, running, or by other means. In order to evaluate movement, physical therapists consider muscle strength, tone, flexibility, control, and coordination. All of these factors are considered when determining the best way to facilitate the student's ability to participate in various school experiences.
