EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM:
The Zion Elementary School Early Childhood program is housed at
Lakeview School with two classrooms for three and four year old
children and at Shiloh Park School with one classroom for
Kindergarten age children. Children are placed in the program based
on their individualized educational plans. In both settings, children have an opportunity to work with their non-disabled peers. At Lakeview, various activities incorporate both the early childhood and pre-kindergarten children. At Shiloh Park School, the early childhood class shares gym class and music class with the kindergarten program, as well as various special activities. As appropriate, children from the early childhood program are integrated into the kindergarten and pre-kindergarten programs.
Staff members work collaboratively in a team approach to meet the needs of each child enrolled in the early childhood program. Team members include the classroom teacher, the classroom assistant, the speech-language pathologist, the occupational therapist, the physical therapist, the social worker, and other necessary personnel.
Parents with concerns about their three and five year old children should call the Special Services Office at 872-0255 to schedule a screening. Screenings are held to assist in identifying children in need of further evaluation.
PRE-KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM:
The Pre-Kindergarten Program at Lakeview School has been in
existence since 1989 and has provided a preschool experience for
over 600 children and their families. Three classrooms provide two
sessions daily for an enrollment of 108 students.Screenings are held to identify students for the program. Children are prioritized for program entry based on screening and interview results.
Children attend school five days weekly. Parents are required to participate in the program as classroom volunteers and as active participants in monthly activities.
The Pre-Kindergarten program facilitates each child's development in vocabulary, visual motor integration, speech and language, fine and gross motor skills, social interaction, and conceptualization.
Screening appointments may be scheduled by calling 872-0255.
